I shipped off to Iraq as a Network Administrator contractor to the Army, working for ITT. As permitted by the Army, I chronicled whatever happened, from the time I accepted the assignment. I was in for 14 months (Apr 05 / May 06)

when it's hazy like that, is the weather cool or hot??
How often does it rain where you are? That dust would make me crazy (or crazier).
First, it is slightly less hot on the dusty days. Maybe 110 instead of 115.
Second, my understanding is that it will absolutely not rain here from June through September. It might start sometime in late October and then in the Dec-Mar time-frame it is rainy. The big issue here is not the rain. In this part of the country even the rainy season isn't that wet. The big issue is no undeground sewer setup to drain off overflow, no grass yards to absorb water. Plus the ground is kind of claylike so it doesn't promote drainage. Finally, after even a 1/2" of rain, the ground turns into a sticky pasty goop. Kind of like walking around in a combination of mucous and grits.
should I send you a bag of Scott's Bermuda grass seed : )
Dwayne
Dwayne, actually it would be interesting to see how it holds up and/or grows. There is some sort of grass that lives here. It looks sort of like Johnson grass but smaller. I'll add some pictures to the blog.
